Coming soon: Roses & Thorns (Vampires in the Mist- Vol 6)

Much has happened to Rose since that fateful party at South Beach. She’s been seduced by vampires, hunted on a moonlit shore, abducted to a private, hidden island,  chosen as a companion of the blood, and sent as a novice to a convent full of witches.

She was abducted by the legendary witch Ygraine, and almost killed by the mad vampire monk Savilla. In between the hair-raising adventures, she often finds herself in very interesting, romantic situations. After all, she is surrounded by lusty vampires, sexy witches, and  red-hot Scots!

Rose returns to the convent, only to be once again swept away into the most incredible adventure yet, as secrets long kept by her family come back to threaten her life and her sanity. But Rose is not the naive, young girl she once was, and now she has something bigger than herself to fight for.

Come, join Rose in her world of  vampires, witches, monsters, magic, and steamy passion. Forget your troubles as she faces and conquers hers. Let the magic of paranormal fantasy  take you away!

BLOOD and MAGIC

Blood and Magic, the 4th exciting volume of Vampires in the Mist, has been released! Don’t miss this next installment, as Rose once again is swept away in a brand-new, terrifying adventure.

Vampires in the Mist is a novella serial. It  features heroine Rose from Miami, young but not too young, spunky, and clueless at first. Lured, seduced, and stolen at a plush South Beach party, Rose finds herself trapped in a world she imagined only existed in books.

Surrounded by powerful, seductive vampires vying for her rare blood, she is forced to accept her destiny as a companion of the blood. These are rare, gifted  females whose special  blood is precious to the covens. But Rose’s road in her new world is one of danger and adventure as different factions  scheme and fight for the right to acquire the most powerful and only companion to appear in seventy years.

Does this plot seem common? Surely, amongst the dozens of urban fantasy stories, many similarly themed series can be found. But Vampires in the Mist is different in profound ways. First, it is not a YA read! Vampires in the Mist is for adult readers.

There is no teenage angst here or “he’s so hot” lines. While the heroine is young, she is not in her teens. Rose is a woman, and  she grows and evolves with each new story. There are scenes of strong sexual content as well. Rose will find her way and grow into a powerful, wise character in time.

Next,  the author always strives for strong characterization. Of course, the story is what grabs the reader, but characters move the story. They must be more than just black and white. They must delight and surprise, and in this series, they do all that and more. They are not stock characters.

There are also important themes running through the series which will appeal to the better reader. The nature of love in its different aspects, the changing face of sexual roles in our times, the influence of mythology and legends in our fiction, and the politics of power as it pertains to women, are all themes woven into this series.

Of course, you will also find all the elements which make urban fantasy so popular today. There are steamy sex scenes, gorgeous vampires and beautiful witches, lots of action, evil characters, and no shortage of perils for our heroine to face and conquer!

The fourth volume, Blood and Magic, is now available. If you want a fresh, fast-paced, addictive reading experience, give this series a try. Remember: No calories, fat, or glutten here. 100% Fiction. You can have all you want!

New Facelift for Daniel’s Fork!

The Daniel’s Fork series has been re-edited and given fresh new covers. Each book has also been retitled. Why the extreme actions?

It has been not only an immense amount of work, but it has also been rather emotionally painful to do the changes. Strongheart’s Woman and Daniel’s Fork are my first novels and dear to me. They are also what I consider my best work as they are truly original in theme and genre: so much so, that they have been hard to place in popular genres and difficult to market.
As a new author, I had difficulty choosing their titles. It seems now that the old titles were not evocative of the proper images in the minds of contemporary readers. When someone thinks of the word “fork” now-a-days, the image that comes to mind is the eating type of fork- and not a fork (branching) in a road or a river.
The old covers were also not properly evocative either. The new covers address the actual themes more effectively. The Hunter’s Snare (previously Daniel’s Fork) cover pulls its theme from the hunt for the killer and emphasizes the male protagonist rather than the healer.
The old cover for Strongheart’s Woman (now Fire Dance) gave an erotica vibe that was misleading. The Fire Dance cover is darker and mysterious as well as romantic.
The short prequel to the series, “Edge of the World,” has disappeared as a stand-alone story. It has been incorporated as the first four chapters of Hunter’s Snare. This change provides a tighter background to the novel and strengthens the characterization.
I hope that readers like and embrace the changes in the series. A new book in the now titled Future Past series is close on the works and due to be released next year.

Audiobooks: Are They For You?

One of the reasons most readers will not try audiobooks is that it seems a lot of trouble to set up. Those who take the trouble, quickly fall in love with them.
The main company offering audiobooks is Audible, and through them, Amazon. To download the book, even if it is FREE, you need to have an audible account.
When you navigate to audible.com, you are met with the “First Month FREE, but $14.95 after first month” advert. Anyone who wants to redeem a free code and test the audiobook waters, is forced to open an account.
Most people are leery of opening new accounts. Many have had experiences where companies make it very difficult to close memberships. Some keep charging for months after the membership is closed, and you have to jump over hoops to get your money back.
Audible is owned by Amazon, and they are very good with customer relations. You will have no problem closing your account. You might love the perks that come with the $14.95 monthly fee and decide to keep it.
GO AHEAD. OPEN THE ACCOUNT. IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO PAY $14.95 A MONTH, BE VERY SURE TO CANCEL BEFORE THE MONTH IS OUT.

If you forget to cancel, you will be charged.  NOTE: You will need to provide a Credit Card or a VISA Logo check card.  If you close the account before the month is out, you will not be charged.
If you cancel, the following will happen:
***Your books will remain in your library to be
      used at will.
***You may still buy audiobooks, but they will
      not be discounted.
***You will not get additional monthly credits,
but you can still redeem any gift codes that
authors give you. Spend your credits before
      quitting!
***You get to keep the book you got with your
      Free Month’s credit.
Now you have an Audible account. If the author gives you a Gift Code,  you must redeem it for a book. A Gift Code is not a book, but it is a credit to buy a book.

I will always gift the audiobook itself, not the code. You’ll get a notice sent to your email that you’ve been gifted an audiobook. You must now download it.
You must sign into your Audible Account and go to Listening APPS. The following apps are available for the following devices. You may install one on your phone, one on your tablet, one on your desktop, or even one on your MP3 player.
iPhone, Android Phone, Windows Phone
Kindle Touch, Fire Tablet, Amazon Echo

Your PC or laptop

Once you have the proper app installed in your listening device, now you can open the app, sign in, and access your book!

It is really easier than it sounds.
   1. Open Account. Get your gifted  book. If the gift was for a
Gift Code, then you must redeem the code first.
   2. Download the proper App for your device.
   3. Access your Free book and listen!

Now, you can search for Free author Gift Codes for more free books.
If you wish to try the audiobook route, I have Gift Codes for both Strongheart’s Woman and Daniel’s Fork, but I will redeem the code myself and gift the audiobook directly to you. Please, open your account and download your app first.

I will gladly gift you an audiobook if you write a short honest review for it after listening to it. I NO LONGER GIVE OUT THE CODES. I redeem the codes and gift the actual book.

Email me at zeecelugo@gmail.comand give me an email where I can send the audiobook gift. It may not be a kindle address. It must be your personal email address.

A New Kind of Vamp!

My latest manuscript is done and ready to go. It has been a while since my last novel was published, over a year now. At a time when self-published authors are releasing a book every two or three months, it may seem that my output is lacking.

In my defense, I must say that I am one of those authors who rewrites to an extreme. I let the manuscript sit for a few weeks before picking it up again. Invariably, I find that words and structure I thought fine before, now need changing. Add to that the fact that I work on different books and short stories at the same time.

My latest endeavor is not part of the Daniel’s Fork series. It is my first foray into the paranormal romance genre. I have long been a fervent fan of the Dark Carpathians series by Christine Feehan. I have read every one of J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood (several times) as well as Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series. I’ve also loved Barb Hendee’s Noble Dead series, more horrific and less romantic but excellently written.

I approached my own effort with some deep introspection. I absolutely did not wish to write what has been written. If I can’t take my reader somewhere new, I won’t write. My vampire could not be a swaggering, leather-clad Daggerhood brother. That’s been done and redone. He would not be a feral Noble Dead. I don’t have Henlee’s dark vision.

I never do teenage angst and glittery biters. Finally, God save me from creating one who whips out his supernaturally large manly rod at the sight of a throbbing vein. As you can see, I had a problem. Any idea you could have, has already been put to paper. As the saying goes, there is nothing new under the sun. What am I left with?

I am left with Maxim, a scruffy, alienated, mean character who sports the homeless look and prowls the parapets of New York City in search of “proper prey.” Maxim is a prodigal son running from duty and responsibility, disconnected from an archaic vampire nation that refuses to embrace the future.

My vampire lives life on his terms, his character shaped and driven by a sense of honor rooted in the now. You will never call him tortured or heroic. I have created my own brand of vampire, and I hope readers will like him. Angel’s Guardian will be available at Amazon only on the 1st of August 2016.
